Inspired by the residents of Cumnock in Central West NSW,
Animals on Bikes is a series of 45 creative sculptures created by local farmers, farmers wives, Men's sheds, busdrivers, Preschool kids, Playgroup mums - and anyone with an artistic flair! A 120 kilometre self-drive tourist route of Paddock Art sculptures between Molong and the Dubbo Taronga Western Plains zoo, via Cumnock and Yeoval in Central West NSW.
Initially created as a visual fantasy for children, after 8 years of drought affecting local businesses it was decided that this sculpture route had the potential to boast morale and improve the economic health of the rural reliant Central West communities.
Sculpture competitions are run which keep the number of sculptures growing.
The aim is to have 100 sculptures by 2012.
Naturally the tourist route on Obley Road is open 365 days a year. Viewing the Paddock Art Sculptures is free - they are for the pleasure of passing tourists and are visible from any motorbike, bicycle, car or bus.
The current Animals on Bikes, Paddock Art Sculpture competition closing date is Sunday 6th November, 2011, with a Presentation night on Saturday 26th November 2011 at the Cumnock Crossroads building.
